10 Months with Kross Elijah

Kross, where do I start? At ten months, you do so many things that amaze me!

You’ve mastered crawling. Walking is right around the corner. Other than exploring the kitchen cabinets, standing up and playing with your LeapFrog learning center is your favorite pastime. You especially love it when Daddy plays on it with you.

You have four teeth, with two more on the way. You handled cutting your first teeth well. Your fuse got a touch shorter, but whose wouldn’t? You love to laugh and giggle and are always quick to smile. When you look at me with those sparkly blue eyes and a toothy grin, my whole self melts into a puddle on the floor.

You got your first fat lip this month. Boyhood rite of passage. We were at the Black Hills State University basketball game when you slipped and fell face first on your “Farm Friends” hard page book. You started crying, but I didn’t realize how bad it was until you turned around with blood running down your face. We quickly exited the gym, found a quiet corner, and cleaned you up. I thought we might need to head home, but you promptly rebounded and enjoyed the rest of the game.

I can see your personality and sense of humor continually blossoming. You love playing peek-a-boo with Daddy and me in the closet curtains or chasing us around the living room. I love the goofy little things you do, like your “Captain Morgan” pose or reaching up with one arm when you want to be held.

You love mealtime and eat three squares a day. At this point, you’re pretty much over purees, especially when spoon-fed. You l-o-v-e solid food. Your current favorites are egg yolks, ground beef, and blueberries.

We reached a significant milestone when we moved you out of our bedroom and into the living room to sleep. In our one-bedroom house, that’s your “room” for now. You’ll have a dedicated bedroom one day, ha!

Our night-time routine is to eat supper, play until you start rubbing your eyes, change into a night-time diaper, apply oils, put on jammies, zip you into your sleep sack, and nurse. We say our prayers together, cuddle, and then zip you into the Slumber Pod for the night. You generally go to sleep without making a peep. You usually wake up around 3:30 - 4 am for a night feeding, then sleep until 6:30 - 7 am. Lately, I’ve stayed awake after your early morning feed and done a few hours of work while you snooze and the house is quiet.

You’ve started climbing on the ottoman and using Daddy and me as jungle gyms. I love your adventurous spirit and quiet determination. I’ll forever treasure how you cruise over to me on the couch and lay your head in my lap. You love being tossed in the air or held close and spun in circles. Right now, your giggle is an infectious cackle that makes everyone else laugh, too.

Mama’s 10-Month Prayer for Kross

Dear God, thank you for the gift of this precious boy. Thank you for making us his parents and trusting us to steward and guide his little soul. Equip us each day to humbly rely on You to help us be the best parents we can be for him.

Thank you for Kross’s health and strong development. You are generous and kind to us, always. Please continue growing Kross into a strong little man who craves learning more about You.

Above all, God, mature him into a man who loves You and Your truth above all things. Amen.
